WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
HEIMAT is a German word, pronounced [ˈhaɪmat], which carries multiple layers of meaning on top of its dictionary translation of "home", or "homeland". Heimat is where you feel rooted and understood, where you feel you belong.
VINLAND is the name which Leif "the Lucky" Erikson, son of Erik "the Red" Thorvaldsson, gave to North America when he and his crew journeyed West from Greenland, arriving in Today's Newfoundland and exploring parts of Canada's Maritime provinces.
The name HEIMAT VINLAND represents our cultural belonging with our German and Scandinavian ancestors, as well as our connectedness with this land, our respect for its own spirits and traditions, and our positive interactions with other cultural traditions present in our communities.
